In the Field: Technicians
As a technician, you're vital to the business. Whether maintaining solar panels, installing HVAC systems, or certifying electrical boards, spotting safety risks or potential upgrades is crucial. When you identify a Defect or a Recommendation, you're not 'selling'—you're offering professional advice that ensures customer safety and system efficiency. We call these observations findings, and they drive your company's growth.
You're on-site and spot extra work not in the job. You need to decide if it should be added as a defect or a recommendation. What does that mean? Understanding the difference between a defect and a recommendation ensures they are handled correctly and clearly communicated.
Add against asset vs Add against property
You can raise a Defect or Recommendation against the property or against an asset.
Adding a defect against an asset
In this example the customer has a solar panel with a crack that poses an immediate concern due to the high risk of water ingress and reduced efficiency. An asset defect is logged when an issue is tied to a specific piece of equipment. In this example our asset will be the solar panel. Recording defects this way ensures the problem is linked directly to that asset's history, making it easier to track faults, plan repairs, and maintain accurate service records.
On the same job, you also note that some trees are shading the solar panels. This time, we'll log a Property Recommendation. As you did before, tap the plus icon and this time click add against property. Upload up to three photos of the shading.

Edit/delete a Defect or recommendation on the mobile
If you realize you made a typo or found more info after saving, don't worry—you can just tap the defect and select Edit.
By following this documentation process, we have transformed a site finding into a high-quality lead. Giving the office team the ammunition they need to keep the customers' systems running safely or secure an upgrade.
