Tap to Pay

Updated over a week ago

Tap to Pay transforms a user's device into a point-of-sale (POS) system, enabling contactless payments directly from the Commusoft mobile app. This feature allows customers to pay effortlessly using Wallet Pay or contactless debit/credit cards, improving convenience, transaction security, and cash flow by reducing payment delays and admin work.

Requirements

📱 iOS requirement update: From May, Commusoft will require iOS 17.0 or later. Please ensure all iOS devices are updated to avoid disruptions.

  • Commusoft mobile app requires iOS 17.0 or later from May onwards. This may be higher than the minimum version required for some Apple features (e.g., Tap to Pay with PIN entry). We recommend updating all iOS devices to version 17.0 or higher to continue using the Commusoft mobile app and ensure compatibility with Tap to Pay features.

Taking a payment

➡️ Navigate to appointment > More > Invoice

  • New invoice: Create invoice > Save > Add new payment > Tap to Pay

  • Existing invoice: Select invoice from list > Payments > Tap to Pay

  1. The app will verify the Stripe integration.

  2. Once verified, the amount payable will appear on the screen.

  3. Ask the customer to place their card near the device's Tap to Pay symbol.

    • Successful payment: A confirmation message is displayed.

      • If a payment receipt email is configured, this will also be triggered.

    • Payment declined: A message may appear on the device to notify the customer of the issue.

      • The customer should be advised to resolve any issues with their bank and pay using a different method.

💭 Wondering if you can take a partial card payment? When paying by card, customers are always expected to pay the full invoice amount in one go.

Considerations

  • Cardholder verification methods (CVM): Some contactless transactions may require additional steps like PIN entry—especially for amounts exceeding a region’s contactless limit.

    • iOS support for PIN entry: Available on devices running iOS 16.4 or later.

  • UK transaction limits: The UK’s contactless transaction limit is £100. Payments above this value must be made using chip-and-PIN or an alternative method.

  • Strong Customer Authentication (SCA): Some cards may need to be inserted into a reader due to issuer security requirements. In these cases, the app may show “Offline PIN required.”

  • Fallback method: If a card fails, recommend using another card or a different payment method.

    • Eg., QR code allows the customer to scan the code and pay online via the payment portal.

Contactless payment regulations vary by region. Always check local rules for transaction limits and required verifications.
