Building custom dashboard widgets gives you complete control over what you measure, how it is calculated, and the specific timeframe it covers. This allows you to visualize exactly how your business is performing and track the metrics that matter most to your operations.
➡️ Click Analytics in the nav bar → Click the Menu icon
→ Select a Dashboard from the list
Build a custom widget
Navigate to the dashboard where you want the new chart to appear and click Add custom widget.
Step 1: Data source
Your Data source determines exactly which fields and metrics are available in the following steps.
Always start at the lowest level of detail you need. For example, select Jobs to track job volume. Because of the object hierarchy, this will also give you access to parent data, such as the related Customer records.
Enter a clear Widget name and an optional Description.
Select your Data source.
Click Continue.
Step 2: Select chart type
Choose the visual format that best tells the story of your data.
Select a chart type from the available options:
Simple charts: Choose from Bar, Column, Line, Pie, Donut, and Semi-circle donut.
Single valued charts: Choose Number or Gauge to highlight one standalone headline figure.
Click Continue.
Note: Analytics+ users can also select advanced chart types, including drill-down, dual axes, and comparison charts. Read more about Using advanced dashboard charts.
Step 3: Select metric
Define exactly how your data is calculated.
Select a calculation logic. Options depend on your data source but typically include:
Count: Tallies total records (e.g., Count of jobs).
Numerical field analysis / Financial field analysis: Applies a Sum, Average, Minimum, or Maximum calculation to a specific field (e.g., Sum of invoice totals).
Time field analysis: Measures durations between events (e.g., Average time from job created to completion).
Percentage based on a field: Shows the percentage distribution of records based on a selected attribute.
Click Continue.
Step 4: Group by
Grouping organizes your calculated metric into categories along the chart's axes.
Select a field to group your data by. If you select a date field, use the Displayed in dropdown to group by day, week, month, or year.
Click Continue.
Note: Analytics+ users can click Add advanced grouping to layer a second dimension onto the chart (e.g., grouping by month, and then breaking each month's column down by job type). Read more about Using advanced dashboard charts.
Step 5: Filters
Filters refine your dataset so the widget only tracks relevant events.
Select your condition to filter by (e.g., Job created on date/time).
Each condition will hae it's own options for further defining the filter conditions. Compplete the drop downs shown (eg., This year filters all jobs created within the current year).
Check the live preview on the right to ensure the chart looks correct.
Click Save.
What happens next?
Your widget will appear on your dashboard and automatically refresh as your team works. You can click and drag widgets to rearrange your layout.
Editing your widgets If you need to make changes, click Edit on any widget to adjust its chart type, metric, or filters. However, the data source cannot be changed once a widget is saved; you must create a new widget instead.
If you are unsure where to go next, return to the main Analytics guide to see all available workflows.
Common questions
Why are some chart axis labels displayed with a strikethrough?
Why are some chart axis labels displayed with a strikethrough?
If a widget group includes deleted or archived values (e.g., an inactive technician), the label will appear with a strikethrough. This keeps your historical reporting accurate while visually indicating that the record is no longer active.
Why do my widget values differ from my tabular report values?
Why do my widget values differ from my tabular report values?
Widgets and tabular reports apply their own filters at runtime. Ensure both your widget and your tabular report use the exact same filters and date ranges to compare results accurately.
Why can't I see the edit or delete options on a widget?
Why can't I see the edit or delete options on a widget?
These options are only visible if you have edit access to the dashboard. If you only have "Can view" permissions, the edit and delete buttons will be hidden. Speak to your system administrator to request edit access.
