Available on: Go Paperless and above
Region: UK only
Add-on required: Postcode+
Postcode+ finds a full UK address from a postcode, so you can add customers, work addresses and suppliers in seconds. Address data comes directly from Royal Mail's Postcode Address File, so what lands in the record is the officially recognised address. That means fewer typing mistakes, fewer misrouted engineers and fewer calls back to a customer to check where they actually live.
Key benefits
Faster data entry: Type a postcode instead of five separate address lines
Accurate records: Addresses come from Royal Mail's Postcode Address File, not from memory
Better routing: Engineers are sent to a verified address, so fewer appointments are missed
Cleaner data: Consistent formatting stops the same property being saved twice under different spellings
Where you can use Postcode+
Postcode+ works anywhere in Commusoft that has an address entry with a Postcode field. Wherever that field appears, you'll see a magnifying glass icon beside it.
That includes adding or editing:
Customers
Companies
Work addresses
Landlords
Invoice addresses
Suppliers
Adding a job or opportunity from the diary
The steps are the same on every one of these screens, and any user who can add and edit customers, work addresses and suppliers can use the lookup.
Postcode+ is available on the web app only. It isn't available in the Commusoft mobile app.
Note: Postcode+ only applies when you add a new address or manually update an existing one. It doesn't change addresses already saved in your account.
How to add an address using Postcode+
Step 1: Search for the postcode
Start from any screen with an address entry, such as a new customer or a new supplier.
Enter the postcode in the Postcode field.
Click the magnifying glass icon.
Important: Pressing the Enter key won't run the search. You need to click the magnifying glass icon.
Step 2: Choose the address
A search panel opens on the right, listing every address registered to that postcode.
Click the correct address from the list.
On most screens, the address fields fill in as soon as you click an address, and the panel closes.
On two screens, the panel asks you to confirm your choice instead: adding a supplier, and adding a job or opportunity from the diary. On these screens, select the address, then click Choose address.
Tip: On the supplier and diary screens, Choose address stays inactive until you've selected an address, so pick one from the list first.
However you selected it, the result is the same: the panel closes and the address fields fill in from the address you chose, including the county. You can edit any of these fields afterwards if the record needs something slightly different, such as a flat number or a site name.
Save the record as you normally would once you're happy with the address.
How credits are used
Postcode+ runs on credits. One credit is used each time a postcode search returns a list of addresses.
A few things worth knowing:
No results, no credit. If a search doesn't find any addresses, no credit is used
Every search that finds addresses uses a credit. This includes searching the same postcode a second time
Selecting an address is free. The credit is used when the results appear, not when you pick an address from the list
Mistyped postcodes don't use a credit. If what you've entered isn't a valid postcode, Commusoft asks you to correct it without running a search
Searching your own records is free. Looking up an address already saved in Commusoft never uses a credit
You shouldn't run out of credits mid-search. Commusoft checks your balance nightly, and when it falls below the reorder level for your bundle size, another bundle of the same size is ordered and invoiced automatically. For example, a 100 credit bundle reorders when your balance drops below 50 credits, and a 1000 credit bundle reorders when it drops below 250 credits.
To buy credits or check your balance, see Purchasing add-ons.
Note: Postcode+ isn't used by the Commusoft search bar. Searching for an existing customer or address costs nothing.
Note: Postcode+ is provided in partnership with EasyPostcodes. Your use of the lookup service is subject to the EasyPostcodes terms of use.

What happens when my credits run low?
Your credits top up automatically when they run low. Commusoft checks your balance nightly and reorders your chosen bundle size when the balance falls below the reorder level, then invoices you for it. A 100 credit bundle reorders below 50 credits, and a 1000 credit bundle reorders below 250 credits.
Am I charged if the postcode doesn't find anything?
Am I charged if the postcode doesn't find anything?
No, you aren't charged if a search finds no addresses. Commusoft shows "Can't find addresses with the postcode" and no credit is used. A credit is only used when a search returns a list of addresses to choose from.
What happens if I search the wrong postcode by mistake?
What happens if I search the wrong postcode by mistake?
It depends on what the search finds. If what you've typed isn't a valid postcode, Commusoft shows "Please enter a valid postcode", no search runs and no credit is used. If the search finds no addresses, no credit is used either. If the wrong postcode still returns a list of addresses, that search uses a credit, and searching the correct postcode afterwards uses another one.
