The Diagnostics page shows which version of the app you're running and which operating system version your device is on. Knowing both tells you whether you're up to date, whether your device can still receive updates, and what to do if an update hasn't arrived. Our support team will often ask for these numbers too.
What you're checking
The Diagnostics page shows two separate version numbers, and they answer different questions.
OS: the operating system version your device is running, such as Android or Apple OS. This tells you whether your device meets our minimum requirements and can still receive app updates.
Build: the version of the Commusoft app currently installed on your device. This tells you whether you're running the latest release.
An out of date Build usually means an app update is waiting. An OS below our minimum means your device can no longer receive app updates at all, which is the more serious of the two.
Learn which versions you need in our Commusoft system requirements article.
How to check your versions
Tap your Profile icon on the home screen.
âTap Diagnostics.
âFind your operating system version under Device, next to OS.
Scroll to the Commusoft app section and find your installed app version next to Build.
Tip: Have both numbers ready when you contact our team. It saves a round of questions and helps us diagnose the issue faster.
Checking your OS on other apps
The Diagnostics page is only in the Commusoft app. If you use the Vehicle Tracking app or the Stockroom app on a device without the Commusoft app installed, check your operating system version in your device settings instead.
Android: Open Settings, tap About phone, then find Android version. The exact wording varies by manufacturer.
iPhone and iPad: Open Settings, tap General, then tap About and find Software Version.
Common questions
What should I do if my OS is below the minimum?
What should I do if my OS is below the minimum?
If your OS is below the minimum, check your device settings for a pending operating system update and install it. If your device can't update far enough, you'll need a device that meets our minimum requirements to keep receiving app updates. See our Commusoft system requirements article for the minimum version for each app.
Why hasn't my app updated to the latest version yet?
Why hasn't my app updated to the latest version yet?
Your app may not have updated yet for a few reasons, and most of them are normal.
Automatic updates are turned off. Automatic updating is a setting in the App Store or Google Play Store on your device, not in Commusoft. If it's off, your apps only update when you update them yourself. That's a valid way to work, it just means updates won't arrive on their own.
Automatic updates are on, but haven't run yet. Your device's store decides when to install an update, and it can take a few days to come through. This timing is controlled by the store, not by Commusoft.
You're already on the latest version. If no newer version has been released since your last update, there's nothing to install.
When an update is ready to install, the Commusoft app shows a banner on its home screen. Tap the banner to go straight to your device's store, then tap Update. The Vehicle Tracking and Stockroom apps don't show this banner, so check for their updates in your device's store.
You can also check for an update yourself at any time:
Open the App Store or Google Play Store on your device.
Search for the Commusoft app you want to update.
Tap Update if the option appears.
Why does my app show Open instead of Update?
Why does my app show Open instead of Update?
Your app shows Open instead of Update whenever your device has no newer version available to install. There are two reasons for this, and they're very different:
You're already running the latest version. This is the usual reason, and nothing is wrong.
Your device can no longer receive updates. If your operating system is below our minimum, your device stops being offered new versions. No error or warning is shown, which is why this looks identical to being up to date.
To tell the two apart, check your OS version using the steps above and compare it against our Commusoft system requirements article. If your OS meets the minimum, you're simply up to date. If it's below the minimum, your device can't be updated any further and you'll need a device that meets the requirements.
