Setting up recommendation types

Create a list of possible recommendations that engineers can select in the mobile app when logging them on site.

Recommendation types are predefined options to help engineers suggest upgrades, safety improvements, or service enhancements during site visits. Configuring these types ensures consistent reporting and helps office staff generate upsell proposals.

Defect vs Recommendation: What's the difference?

  • A defect is something that must be fixed - anything affecting safety, performance, or reliability, like a faulty valve or boiler lockout. Defects require immediate attention or scheduled repair to keep the system safe and operational.

  • A recommendation is something that adds value through upgrades, efficiency improvements, or enhancements like smart thermostats or magnetic filters.

How to access the recommendation types setting

  1. Go to your Profile icon

  2. Click Settings and then Opportunities in the Categories menu

  3. Locate Recommendation types

  4. Click View

Adding a new recommendation type

Creating clear recommendation types allows your team to log suggestions quickly using standard naming conventions.

Each type is linked to a specific pipeline, which determines the workflow stages the recommendation will follow.

  1. Click Add new recommendation type.

  2. Enter the recommendation name (e.g., Install Smart Thermostat).

  3. Select the pipeline for the recommendation's workflow.

  4. Click Save.

The new type will now be available for engineers to select when reporting recommendations via the mobile app.

Managing recommendation types

You can update your list of recommendation types at any time to keep them relevant.

Editing a recommendation type

If you need to rename a recommendation type to make it clearer for your team, you can update it in the settings.

  1. Click Edit next to the recommendation type you wish to change.

  2. Update the name field as required.

  3. Click Save.

It is not possible to edit the assigned pipeline once the recommendation type has been used. Instead, archive it and create a new one.

Deleting or archiving recommendation types

You can remove recommendation types that are no longer needed. The system handles this differently depending on whether the type has been used.

  1. Find the recommendation type you want to remove in the list.

  2. Click Delete.

  3. The system will check if the skill is currently in use.

    1. If the skill is not in use, you will be prompted to confirm its permanent deletion. Type delete, then click delete again.

    2. If the skill is in use, the 'Archive Skill' pop-up will appear, explaining it cannot be deleted. Type archive, then click archive.

Common questions

Can I change the pipeline for a recommendation type?

No, once a recommendation type has been used, the pipeline is locked. If you need a different pipeline, you must create a new recommendation type and archive the old one.

Identifies an older, inefficient model where a replacement proposal would offer significant energy savings for the customer.
