Defect types are predefined categories that help engineers consistently identify and log defects during a job. Configuring these types ensures consistent reporting and helps office staff prioritize work and generate proposals.
Defect vs Recommendation: What's the difference?
A defect is something that must be fixed - anything affecting safety, performance, or reliability, like a faulty valve or boiler lockout. Defects require immediate attention or scheduled repair to keep the system safe and operational.
A recommendation is something that adds value through upgrades, efficiency improvements, or enhancements like smart thermostats or magnetic filters.

Each type is linked to a specific defect & recommendation pipeline, which determines the workflow stages the defect will follow.
Click Add new defect type
Enter the defect name (e.g., Boiler fault or Compressor failure)
Select the pipeline for the defect's workflow
Click Save
The new type will now be available for engineers to select when reporting defects via the mobile app.

You can remove defect types that are no longer needed. The system handles this differently depending on whether the type has been used.
Find the defect type you want to remove in the list.
Click Delete.
The system will check if the skill is currently in use.
If the skill is not in use, you will be prompted to confirm its permanent deletion. Type delete, then click delete again.
If the skill is in use, the 'Archive Skill' pop-gup will appear, explaining it cannot be deleted. Type archive, then click archive.
Common questions
Can I change the pipeline for a defect type after saving?
Can I change the pipeline for a defect type after saving?
No, once a defect type has been used the pipeline is locked. If you need a different pipeline, you must create a new defect type and archive the old one.
