How to clock in and out in the mobile app

Log your own hours from the app home screen, so the office is not chasing you for them.

Log your own hours from the app home screen, so the office is not chasing you for them.

The timecard widget on your home screen is where you record your working day. What you log there feeds the timesheet the office reviews for payroll.

Finding the timecard

➡️ Tap Home

The timecard widget shows your current state — clocked in, on a break, or clocked out — with a running counter.

Note: If you cannot see the widget at all, mobile timecards have not been switched on for your account. That is an administrator setting — ask your office, it is not something you can turn on yourself.

Logging your day

Starting your shift

  1. Tap Clock in.

  2. Check the time shown, and tap Change time if you started earlier.

  3. Confirm.

The counter starts and Clock in greys out.

If you tap Travel on a job before you've clocked in, the app may show a Confirm clock in sheet with a Clock in button, so you can start your shift there. Afterwards, check the counter on the home screen has started; if it hasn't, tap Clock in on the widget. On a poor connection, it can take around 30 seconds for an error to appear if the clock-in fails.

Taking a break

Tap Break in when you stop, and Break end when you return.

Ending your shift

Tap Clock out at the end of the day. A Confirm clock out panel shows the time it is about to record — tap Clock out again to confirm, or Change time to set a different one.

You can't clock out while you're travelling to or have arrived at an appointment. The app shows Unable to clock out while traveling to or arrived at an appointment. Finish the appointment first, then clock out.

Two things that catch people out

Shifts do not close on their own

Important: If you forget to clock out, the shift stays open. It does not close at midnight, and it keeps counting — a shift left open from Sunday evening will still be running as one unbroken shift the following Monday.

You cannot simply clock out the next day. Commusoft blocks it with this message:

Clock out time must be within 24 hrs of clock in time, please change time/date manually.

You fix it yourself in the app. You do not need a computer, and you do not need to wait for the office.

Closing a shift you forgot to end

➡️ Clock out > Change time

  1. Pick the date. Only dates within 24 hours of when you clocked in can be chosen — the rest are greyed out. If you clocked in on Sunday evening, that means Sunday or Monday.

  2. Set the time using the hour, minute and AM/PM controls. It has to be after you clocked in — an earlier time will not do.

  3. Enter a reason. Reason to change clock out time is required and the clock out will not go through without it. "Forgot to clock out at the end of the shift" is enough.

  4. Tap Clock out.

The timer resets to 00:00:00 and Clock in becomes available again.

Important: Do not tap Cancel or the ✕ once you have set the date and time — both discard your changes and put you back to the original time, with no warning.

Most forgotten clock-outs are same-day — you finished at 6pm and remember at 9pm. Set that evening's time and it goes straight through.

You need to be online

You must be online to clock in or out. With no signal, the timecard can't record the action.

If you have to start or finish work somewhere with no signal, note the actual times down and use Change time to set them once you have a connection.

Common questions

Why can't I see the timecard widget?

Mobile timecards have not been enabled for your account. Ask your office — it is an administrator setting.

I clocked in from the Travel prompt. Did it work?

Check the counter on the home screen. If it has not started, tap Clock in on the widget itself.

Why can't I clock out?

You can't clock out while you're travelling to or have arrived at an appointment. Finish the appointment, then clock out. You also need to be online.

I forgot to clock out last night and cannot clock in this morning.

Amend yesterday's timecard to add the clock-out time first, then clock in for today. Shifts do not close automatically. Your office can make the amendment for you if you are stuck.

Why is Clock in greyed out?

You are already clocked in. Break in and Clock out will be available instead.

Can I clock in with no signal?

No. You must be online to clock in or out. Once you're back in signal, clock in and use Change time to set the time you actually started.

My hours look wrong on the office system.

Check your phone's date and time first, under Diagnostics > Device — Commusoft records from your phone's clock. If the phone is right, contact your office and they can amend the timecard.
