How to sign in to the mobile app

Install the Commusoft app and log in to access your account, download your data, and enable key mobile features.

Installing the Commusoft mobile app and logging in allows users to access their Commusoft account from their mobile device, enabling them to manage jobs, customers, and schedules efficiently.

Install the App

  1. Open your device’s App Store (iOS) or Google Play Store (Android).

  2. In the search bar, type "Commusoft".

  3. Locate the official Commusoft app and tap Install (Android) or Get (iOS).

  4. Wait for the installation to complete, then tap Open to launch the app.

Log In to the App

  1. On the login screen, enter your Client ID, Username and Password.

    • The Client ID is the same for all users on the account. If unsure, ask the office team to check.

    • Tap the eye icon beside the password field if you want to check what you have typed.

  2. Tap Log In to access your Commusoft account.

  3. Read the walkthrough pages and tap Next to proceed.

    • The app will display a walkthrough highlighting notable updates for your attention.

  4. The download screen will show the database download progress.

    • Keep the screen on during the download. If the phone goes to sleeps, the download may be interrupted and will need to be restarted.

    • To restart the download, swipe the app closed and reopen it to begin from step 1.

    • A grey Downloading information bar sits at the bottom of the home screen while it runs. The home screen is usable behind it, but records will be missing until it finishes.

  5. When prompted, grant necessary permissions. These are covered in detail below.

What the app asks you next

Signing in is not the last tap. The app asks for a run of permissions before it lets you in, and declining one switches a feature off rather than just dismissing a message.

The diary permission

If your role allows you to see other people's diaries, Commusoft asks first whether you want that feature enabled on this phone. Answer Yes if you cover for colleagues or run a team.

Most technicians never see this prompt. It only appears from Senior engineer upwards, so if you did not get it and think you should have, it is your role that needs changing rather than a setting on your phone.

The device permissions

Your phone then asks for four things in turn.

It asks to

Answer

Why it matters

Take pictures and record video

While using the app

No photos on job reports, no access records, forms or assets without it

Access this device's location

While using the app, Precise

Required for the timecard. Also used for travel and arrive timestamps, and photo location stamping

Make and manage phone calls

Allow

Tapping a customer's number to call them from the job

Send you notifications

Allow

New appointments and changes made by the office

Important: Location is not optional if you use the timecard. The app confirms your location when you clock in and out, and denying it produces a Location access is restricted or denied error instead.

Tip: Say yes to all four. Each one turns off part of the app you will want on site, and turning them back on later means going through your phone's own settings rather than Commusoft's.

Common questions

Where do I find my Client ID?

It is your company's Commusoft account number, and it is the same for everyone in your company. Ask your office, or check the Diagnostics screen under User once you are signed in.

Do I have to sign in every day?

No. You sign in once and stay signed in. The app is deliberately built without a log out option, because staying signed in is what allows background syncing and offline access. If you are being asked to sign in repeatedly, contact your office so they can check your user account.

Can I use the app on more than one device?

We recommend one device only. Signing in on a second device can cause syncing problems, because both hold and update the same records and can disagree about which version is current.

I declined a permission. How do I turn it back on?

Through your phone's own settings rather than Commusoft. On Android, Settings then Apps then Commusoft then Permissions. On iOS, Settings then Commusoft.
