An opportunity is a potential sale your business is working to close. You add it to a customer or work address when someone gets in touch about new work, by phone, email or a website inquiry. The opportunity record keeps the customer and site details, communication history, survey visits and proposals for that sale in one place, so your team can follow up on time, quote accurately and win more work.
Where opportunities fit
Opportunities are the start of the sales journey in Commusoft. Each one moves from first inquiry to a proposal, and from an accepted proposal to a job.
Opportunity: captures what the customer needs, the site details, the assigned salesperson and every call, email, SMS, note and diary event, all logged on the record's timeline.
Proposal: built from the opportunity and sent to the customer to review and accept online. See Understanding Proposals.
Job: created automatically when the proposal is accepted, so the work moves straight from sales to scheduling and invoicing.
Opportunity templates keep this consistent. They set the job description, pipeline, cover page template, notes and attachments for each type of work, so every new inquiry starts with the right information.
How an opportunity closes
Every opportunity ends in one of three outcomes. Recording the outcome and the reason behind it keeps your records accurate and shows you why work is won or lost.
Outcome | What it means |
Won | The proposal is accepted, either by the customer in the proposal portal or by your team after the customer confirms. A job is created automatically, and the opportunity is locked for record-keeping. |
Rejected | The customer turns the proposal down, either in the proposal portal or through your team. A rejection reason records why. |
Cancelled | The opportunity stops before a proposal is sent. The assignee picks a cancellation reason to record why. |
You set your own rejection and cancellation reasons in settings, so the options match how your business reports on lost work.
Sales on Core and Sales+
Opportunities and proposals are part of Sales, which is included in your Commusoft Core plan. You can create opportunities and send proposals without an add-on. Sales+ is the paid add-on that extends them, with plans called Designer, Solo and Team.
Available on: Opportunities and proposals on Core. Opportunity pipelines and the Opportunities dashboard on Sales+ Solo and above. Pipeline automations on Sales+ Team.
Core: opportunities run on one default pipeline in the background. You can't view, edit or add pipelines, and there's no Opportunities dashboard.
Sales+ Solo: adds pipeline settings, multiple pipelines and the Opportunities dashboard, so you can track every opportunity by stage at a glance.
Sales+ Team: adds pipeline automations that send messages, start sequences or assign a salesperson as opportunities move through your stages.
Sales+ also comes with its own licenses and roles, which set what each member of your sales team can see and do.
