Technical references in the mobile app

Record where the gas meter, stopcock and consumer unit are, so the next visit does not start with a search.

Record where the gas meter, stopcock and consumer unit are, so the next visit does not start with a search.

Technical references are notes about where things are at a property, such as the meter, the stopcock and the fuse board. They are saved against the property, not the job, so whoever attends next can find them.

A few minutes spent recording a stopcock location can save the next technician a long search during a leak.

Finding technical references

➡️ Open a job > tap the menu icon > Technical references

The screen lists the locations your company wants recorded. Anything not yet filled in shows Not added yet.

The list is set up by your office in Commusoft, not a standard one, so what you see depends on the trades your company works in. A company doing gas and renewables will have different entries from one doing commercial catering. A typical list starts:

  • Electric Meter Location

  • Main Water Shutoff Location

  • Main Fuse Board / Consumer Unit Location

  • Gas Meter Location

  • Boiler Location

  • Inverter Location

If something you keep finding is not on the list, ask your office to add it.

Adding a reference

  1. Tap Add next to the item you want to record.

  2. Describe where it is.

  3. Save.

Tip: Write it the way you would tell a colleague on the phone. "Under the stairs, behind the coats, needs a torch" is worth far more than "hallway".

Common questions

Where are technical references saved, to the job or the property?

Technical references are saved to the property. They stay with the address, so they are there for any future visit, whichever job or technician it is.

Do I have to fill all of them in?

No, you don't have to fill them all in. Fill in what you find. Anything you have not recorded shows Not added yet, so it is obvious to the next person what is known and what is not.

Can the office see technical references?

Yes. They appear on the property record on the web, in a Technical reference section the office can edit. Anything you record on site is visible to them straight away.

Why does my list look different from a colleague's?

Within one company, the list should look the same, because your office sets it centrally. If it looks different, your app may need a sync. If it still looks different, ask your office.
